Everyone Makes Mistakes
I made a mistake today on calling the contest too soon and didn't realize that I had put on my flier 8 p.m. tonight. So I declared a winner at noon and not realizing (In hindsight, I should have checked - that's what I get for making a flier at 3 am when my son is awake?) my flier said 8 p.m. When someone asked me on Sunday when the contest ended, I said 12/12/12 at 12 pm, not realizing my flier said 8pm originally and not realizing this 'change' would have such a negative affect.
It was an honest mistake and someone realized it and called me on it. I'm glad they did or I would not have known. I felt like the right thing to do was to offer everyone who entered that same free session, that way everyone was a fair winner. I stand by that decision.
What I didn't expect was the personal attacks about me, people thinking I was 'scamming' or being untruthful on purpose, people saying I needed to take business classes and that they would not recommend me to others. I have never had anyone say they would not recommend me to others, so this was devestating to hear and it made me sad that this person never had the chance to have a session with me, or they would have realized how hard I work to make people happy and have a good experience. I'm sorry they were so upset to say such hurtful things.
I care deeply about the families I photograph and I take your confidence very seriously. I donate my photographic time to the Barnet Library, Fairbanks Museum, Balch Nature School and other local places to help them and I do it because I care and I want to help. I have said this many times, but just to make it clear: I do not get rich from photography and I don't care to. It is a creative outlet for me, a way to give back to my community and to help others. If I make enough to pay for my equipment that is good enough for me.
What happened was an honest mistake on my part and if I made anyone upset, I'm very sorry. There is absolutely no excuse for being rude and insensitive and attacking me. I'm a mom, a wife, a daughter, and a friend. I shop locally when I can. I see you in the local stores or around town. I'm not some big company based out of state that treats people like a number. Please choose e-mail or call me in person if you have a problem with me, don't broadcast your feelings on a public site. It's uncalled for.
And with that, let's all move forward...
